What’s in This Essential Oil Roller Bottle Recipe
Lavender– known for its relaxation properties, lavender eases tension and anxiety. Lavender improves mood and can soothe headaches if used at the onset of symptoms.
Lemon– is a cooling energetic and uplifts mood. Citrus oils are photosensitive and should not be used on areas exposed to direct sunlight.
Fractionated Coconut Oil– remains a liquid, unlike regular coconut oil. FCO is a common carrier oil for essential oils because it is odorless, easily absorbed and gentle on the skin.
Who Is This Recipe For
When I first learned lavender is a herb specifically for high strung people who need to relax I laughed out loud. I was laughing at myself because lavender is my love language! That description doesn’t sound very nice but when you think about it, it’s describing a person who is overwhelmed and/or overstimulated. I think if anyone can relate to that, it’s moms! As moms it’s easy to get caught up in family and household duties while our own self care needs fall to the end of the to-do list. When I start to get irritated by the sound of the dog’s nails tapping on the wood floor or I don’t have enough mental space to problem solve a situation- I know it’s time to grab this roller bottle and take some deep breaths.
Moms are not the only group of people effected by overwhelm and overstimulation. The busyness of life can catch up to anyone of any age! While the recipe below is intended for adults, children can benefit from a simple lavender essential oil roller bottle that is further diluted.
How To Use A Roller Bottle
Essential oils should always be in dark glass bottles, as they will eventually break down plastics. Roller bottles holding essential oil recipes are intended to be used externally on the skin. I like to use them on the radial (inside of wrist) or temporal pulse points. I will also apply them behind the bottom of my ear, as I find that to be a good spot for aromatic support. For best results store roller bottles at room temperature out of direct light.
The Importance of Dilution
Essential oils are powerful natural substances. They are highly concentrated which may increase the potential for misuse. In general, essential oils should not exceed 3% of a solution. Perfumes, however, are known to go up to a 5% dilution with the idea that they are applied to a much smaller surface area of the body. The recipe below is a 5% dilution intended for adult usage.
