In college I used to pay good money for a popular skin exfoliation kit from a well known cosmetics company. The kit worked wonders on my constantly cracked, over-sanitized hands. Being in the hospital for both work and clinicals, dry hands were unavoidable and I had to do something about it. I just wish I would have crossed into the homemade remedies world sooner to save myself some money! Not to mention avoiding all the unwanted additives in standard skincare products. What’s important is now I know better and can easily make my own skin exfoliation scrub at home!

What is a Sugar Scrub

Sugar scrubs are used to exfoliate your skin. Whether it’s the face, lips, hands or feet- this all natural sugar scrub can be used on the whole body! It will gently scrub off dry, dead skin cells. Follow it up with your favorite moisturizer for smooth, glowing skin.

What’s in It

The best part about this sugar scrub is that you probably already have the two main ingredients! Olive oil and cane sugar are really all you need. For additional benefits I’m adding dried lavender buds. However, if you’re in a pinch and don’t want to wait 4-6 weeks to infuse the oil, the lavender can be left out. Calendula is another amazing herb for dry skin!

How to Make All Natural Sugar Scrub

Infuse Oil : Add dried herbs to a dry, sanitized glass jar. Add room temperature olive oil to cover. Stir with a clean spoon, ensuring all herbs are coated and no air bubbles remain. Cap and store at room temperature in a dark place for 4-6 weeks.

Strain : Place a fine mesh strainer over a clean, dry bowl or jar and strain herbs. Gently press herbs to squeeze out all the oil.

Mix : Mix strained oil with sugar.

Store : To store, these plastic jars are great in the bathroom/shower. If you’re planning to use or gift this as a lip scrub, these smaller tin containers are perfect!

How to Use a Sugar Scrub

To use as an exfoliant, simply scoop a small amount onto your fingertips and gently scrub into desired area. Rinse off with warm water and pat dry with clean towel. It’s important to keep water out of the sugar scrub to prevent spoilage. Be sure to follow up with your favorite moisturizer for smooth, glowing skin!

Notes

This natural sugar scrub can be used on the face, lips, hands, feet or whole body.
Try to reserve exfoliation for 1-2 times per week.
Avoid getting water in container, as it will lead to spoiling.
If making this in a pinch, it is not necessary to use herbs. Simply leave them out and make with EVOO + Sugar.
